2019 – wow seems hard to believe. But yes, it is here. The start of the year seems to be the time some of us make New Years resolutions. Most of the time those resolutions relate to eating and exercise. But what if this year was different? What if this year we all make together a resolution to allow God to change us more into Who Jesus is? What if this year, we sought God more and walked more in the fruit of the Spirit? I believe by doing that all of those other resolutions will fall into place.
How do I know this? Easy by reading Matthew 6:33. It says seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness (His way of doing and being right) and all these other things will be added unto you.
What does this verse mean? Let’s look at it in three stages.
First – seek God. This means read the Bible, talk to God and listen to godly men and women preach the Word. What does this do for us? Well my Bible tells me that faith comes by hearing and continually hearing the Word of God. It will mean that our faith will increase (like a muscle does) and our trust in God will increase. We will know what the Bible teaches us. We also know that faith is how we please God.
Second – seek God’s righteousness (His way of doing and being right). I covered a bit of this above. We need to read our Bible and see what God says and then we need to say it and act on it. When the Bible tells us to love others – we need to love others (as hard as it may be). We need to see people the way that God sees them and that will become easier. We need to have the fruit of the Spirit in our lives.
This can sometimes be where we become stuck and just give up. But we shouldn’t. God’s Word will work in our lives when we read it, believe it and say it until it gets down in our hearts and becomes natural to us. I am still working on this one and will be for a while. I have found that if you get one right, the next one will be there for us to work through.
Third – all these things will be added to you. Everything you need to prosper spirit, soul and body will be there for you. They won’t be there by your own strength however, but by believing and doing the Word of God.
This year let’s work on those things above in our own lives. From last post, what’s the word for our church this year – it is expectation. As we are working on those things set out above, let’s be expecting God to do great things in our lives in all areas.
Let me know how you are going and I will post on some of mine. If you need prayer, just ask so we can all be in this together.
Bless you heaps and keep living the life God intended for you.
