Who are you listening to

I started to write on this last time and feel that God wants me to continue as I didn’t fully share what was in my heart. The question of who are we listening to is a good one to ask. But it is a little more that that. Not only who are we listening to but which voice are we believing. There are many voices shouting at us every day “dress in the latest fashion or you won’t look good enough”, ” eat at this place or you are not cool enough”, go on this holiday or you aren’t living good enough”, ” use this product or you aren’t a good mother” etc etc etc.  these voices are constantly demeaning who we are as a person and who God created us to be.

The song by Casting Crowns – the voice of truth is really relevant. One of the lines says “out of all the voices calling out to me I will choose to listen and believe the voice of truth”. There is only one voice of truth that we should be listening to and that is the Word of God. It should be our first go-to and not our last (when all else has failed and we feel unloved, unwanted and not good enough).  I want to remind you that God loves you, you are wanted and you are good enough. God created you and He only creates the best.

Now there may be some things that you may need to change on the outside but our worth and value comes from Him and only Him.

In our story from the Bible from last week, in 1 Samuel 17: 1-11, the enemy Goliath was speaking and instead of the Israelites remembering that they were God’s chosen people, they believed the voice of the enemy. One thing you will notice that the voice of the enemy always creates terror and fear. The voice of God always produces faith and hope.

When we read further on in the same story, David chose not to believe the enemy nor did he name him. David called him the “uncircumcised Philistine”. The word uncircumcised refers to the fact that the Philistines had no covenant with God. Only the Israelites had a covenant with God. Having that covenant allowed God to fight on their behalf and all they had to do was obey.

This is the same for us today. We have a covenant with God (through the death and resurrection of Jesus) and if we have made Jesus the Lord of our life, all we need to do is obey the Word of God.

Who are you listening to? It should be the voice of God. This week spend some time with God and hear from Him. Then just obey. You will live blessed, encouraged and able to live an amazing life. Have a great week!
