This year is a year where we need to leave our “lasts” behind. By that I mean that the new year should be a year of “firsts”. When was the last time that we did something new? Everytime we do something new, it means we have left a “last” behind. For some of us it is starting a new job and leaving the old one behind, starting at a new school and leaving the old one behind, commencing healthy eating and leaving unhealthy behind or maybe God is speaking to you about starting something new. But what do we have to leave behind?
I love the way that God does things in the Bible. When He wants to introduce something new, something old leaves. For example, the Old Testament and the New Testament. It doesn’t mean that the old isn’t relevant or isn’t a part of our journey, it just means that a new thing is happening (to add to that which we already have).
I really like the verse in Isaiah 43:18-19. It says “do not remember the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I (God) will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth; shall you not know it”. This is a year where new things will happen, if we allow them too.
Do you want God to touch you in a special way – then let God do it. Sometimes, it comes down to trusting Him enough to have His way in our lives. Often we are afraid of what God is going to do, so we hang onto the old. But this year, let God do something new.
This is a new year. Leave the last behind and embrace all the challenges, good times and new relationships and things that God is going to do in your life. Let God shine through you this year.
